My Favorite Things of 2012

Image
It's that time of the year again.  Here is my list of favorites for 2012, in no particular order. 1.  My favorite TV shows The Walking Dead ( love and hate it ) , Homeland  (worth the cost of Showtime) and ..... Sons of Anarchy ( yet again ).  I don't know what that says about me as a person, but I don't care. 2.  At least one Saturday morning each month I head to the Troy Farmers Market where I immerse myself in the crowds and enjoy the sounds, smells, and flavors of fresh produce, bakery items and everything in between.  Why can't Albany have something like this?  The church that people want to turn into a brewery, how about a year long Farmers Market instead?  Rent it out as Art Space and turn it into a market place on the weekends.  Good thinking.  Maybe I should write a letter to the Times Union. 3.  Watching Ben play soccer.  There is no greater feeling as a parent then watching your child excel at something they ...

Three Weeks To Go

Image
I went out to dinner with friends last night and with my Gastric Bypass scheduled for May 21, we jokingly called it "My Last Supper", though Gail thought is was too sad of a title.  My next three weeks are going to be full of "last" meals, drinks, and snacks, but I don't want to make it an excuse to overeat.  My relationship with food is going to radically change.  It's got me thinking, how important are these things in my life and do I really want to experience it one more time?  Or maybe it's time to just let this stuff go? Almost nightly I read through the diet plan for the month or so after surgery and even further beyond, trying to understand it and how it will fit into my life  I can't use a straw because it will allow too much air in and cause pain.  No alcohol because even the smallest amount will be too much.  No soda or carbonated drinks, again because of the air.  No refined breads, pasta and crackers because they will swell in my...

Nourish, Comfort and Treat

I have no fucking idea.  Food used to be my go to item for everything;  boredom, depression, rewards, loneliness, comfort and treats.  Ice cream was my favorite cure all.  So now what do I do?  How can I nourish, comfort, and treat myself, if food isn't an option.  That has been plaguing me for the past two weeks.  So much so that I've started about 5 Blogs with that question, only to delete them every time. Well I am finally waving the white flag.  I don't know. There is no one thing.  And honestly I don't think it's something I can answer right now.  I don't feel like eating and when I do eat, I feel indigestion, discomfort and nausea.  There are lots of nice things I can do for myself, but none of them have the power, numbing ability and pleasure that food has brought me.  It's easy to not eat now.  I don't enjoy it and it makes me feel lousy.  Maybe I'm wrong and it could be I am not willing to dig deep and conf...
