The Next Four Years

Image
Watching the Presidential debates, I saw lips moving and heard a lot of words but after a while all I heard was "blah, blah, blah" and I changed the channel.  I can't stand hearing the bickering, bullying and TV ads that has become our political climate.  Yeah we're a Democracy, but at times it feels more like lunacy. I have some fundamental questions that I'm asking myself this year as I decide who to vote for.  To be honest, I have never voted for a republican candidate before and it is unlikely I will this year, but the hope for change and prosperity as a nation that I felt four years ago has waned.  So I weighing the issues important to me before I make a final decision. Am I better off now than I was four years ago?  No.  Do I blame President Obama for it?  No. Who do I think has the best possible chance to get us out of our financial mess?  Neither of them, but I trust Obama more than Romney.  He seems to be more upfront about his p...

It's All About Teal

I recently had the honor to be a guest speaker at the annual Caring Together Memorial Service.   Thanks for having me here tonight.  My name is Anne Lawton and I am a Chemotherapy Infusion Nurse at Women's Cancer Care Associates.  This is the third time I've had the honor of speaking at this annual service.  Last month I took a lot of photos at the annual Teal Ribbon Race and Walk.   I have attended the Race/Walk every year since the beginning and it's one of my favorite events, because it reminds me of all the special women I have cared for over the years.   Enjoy the video. It's the angels among us that have changed my life and made me a better nurse.  Let me tell you about a few of them. My very first Ovarian Cancer patient was Paulette.  She had a smile that lit up the room and twenty years later I haven't forgotten her and the love she had for her small children, the beneficiaries of that great smile. Jennie was very spe...

Eleven As One

Home games at night under the lights at Bleeker Stadium are fun.  They make it a big deal for the kids by announcing the starters and having them trot out onto the field one by one, showing a little flash of the big time.  The starting players stand in the center of the field, arms locked during the National Anthem.  The parents and families all sit in the stands behind the bench and the high school fans sit in the Falcon’s Nest on the opposite side of the field and you can hear them cheering and laughing throughout the games.  Everything seems ideal at first glance, but the Scoreboard isn't working and the unite...
