Giving Thanks for Simple Gifts

I worked on Thursday. Sam and Ben came home last night and today is my Thanksgiving. I have the turkey in the oven and the house is soon to be filled with the smells of my culinary efforts. I love turkey and all the fixing. Maybe it’s an age thing, but I am becoming more and more thankful for the simple things in my life. So here goes……..

Thanks to H, M, W and N for being part of my day on Thursday. Even though I was working and keeping a mental time sheet in my head and thinking about the money I was earning, I was still happy to work. I got to be part of making four lives a little better and that made my day special.

I am thankful to my big cat Ash. He sleeps with me every night keeping me warm and feeling loved. Ash hogs the bed and snores, but I’m thankful I don’t have to pick up his dirty underwear and wash them. He may be the best bed companion I’ve ever had.

I planted some snow drops a couple of weeks ago. The squirrels have already eaten them, despite my making feeding boxes for them specifically so they would leave the bulbs alone. I’m thankful I bought the bulbs at 75% off.

Having to work two jobs is not my ideal way to live. But I’m thankful, none the less. They are both good jobs and I get to meet some amazing people who both challenge me and make my life full and rich, no pun intended.

I am thankful for the pair of cardinals and blue jays that push their way through the dozens of annoying house sparrows to get to the feeders. They bring brilliant color to my life without the constant annoying chirping that the sparrows do.

I’m thankful that my Mother is finally in a safe place and especially thankful for my sister Martha for making that possible. That was no simple thing, but I’m amazingly grateful. There is a special place in heaven for both of them.

I am thankful for my friends Kim and Gail. They like me for being me. I loved going to Chicago with you both. Thanks for pushing me to do something for myself. (See Smilebox)

A nine year old that I cared for last weekend told me, “I’m going be as tall as my Dad when I grow up”. He just finished his first round of chemotherapy and for him; his goal was just that simple. Kids are amazing.

I’m thankful for Butoto. He is a boy that I sponsor for soccer from the Congo. Butoto is coming for dinner tonight and I am thankful that I can help him. His life has not been easy. I can’t fix what he has experienced, but I can help him with the simple joy he gets from soccer and being part of a team.

That’s it. I am filled with thanks and joy today. Hope you are too.
