Me And The Sons

I am not one for planning my day around a TV show, but Tuesday nights at 10pm are the exception. It is my time and I don’t want to be disturbed. It’s my time with The Sons……..of Anarchy, that is.

The Sons of Anarchy is a modern day, motorcycle gang version of The Godfather. The prince, next in line, however you want to characterize it, is trying to make things right based on a manifest written by his long dead father, John Teller. He is full of angst, anger, and raw emotion. The star is Charlie Hunnam, who plays Jax Teller. You are first drawn in by his incredible looks, but soon realize that he plays the role with both intensity and vulnerability. The supporting cast is equally talented. Ron Perlman plays Clay Morrow, the leader of the club, with his “Queen” played by Katey Sagal. Yes, the Married with Children, Katey Sagal. She is amazing, regal, and fierce in her role as Clay’s wife and Jax’s mother, Gemma. Season Two was so mesmerizing in large part because of her acting. The rest of the cast are equal parts fierce, intense, and lovable and, yes even occasionally funny. They are not always smart, but they are always loyal. The whole cast is believable and leaves you wanting more. This is not a show for the faint of heart. It is raw, intense and sometimes violent. Created and produced by Kurt Sutter, it is a show that is worth watching and in my case over and over again.

I am not the stereotypical fan, if there even is one. I hate cigarette smoking and think it should be illegal, yet most of the characters smoke. I intensely dislike violence and sometimes I have to turn my head. Guns are a major source of income and drama for Samcro and it goes against everything I believe in. The only time I was on a motorcycle was when I was 16 and I thought my father would have a stroke on the spot and I have no desire to get on one now. I dislike most of the activities portrayed on the show. Yet every Tuesday night at 10pm, I have the TV on and tuned to FX because it’s time for The Son’s Of Anarchy.
