Watching Tiger
I love watching Golf on Sunday afternoon. For those of you out there who would rather watch paint dry then watch golf, let me share my secret. Get all your chores done earlier in the day. Then settle in with a good book, the newspaper or magazine. Hit the recliner with remotes handy and turn on golf. In between reading, naps, or even folding laundry you will get drawn in. Even if you nap for two hours, as long as you are awake for the last hour, you are good. It's called multi tasking Anne style.
The Masters, the US Open and the British Open are some of my favorites. Now I'm not usually political in my blogs but I will touch upon it some today. Some of you might question why a liberal, feminist would watch the Masters. It's an old white boy organization run by The Augusta National Golf Association. No women, no Jews, no blacks, no Latinos, no ethnicity. Let me explain, it's not just about the nap, it's about the golf and the young athletic men that are starting to rule the game. I never liked the old, heavy, polyester clothed men who played, but who doesn't appreciate the young bucks who now play the game. They have brought life back to golf. They are young, hip, athletic, attractive and play the game with not just brute strength, but also a great touch. In a game that is still a traditional, white, male, elitist sport, it's fun to see some color and diversity. And they don't wear their grandfather's droopy polyester pants! Even Phil has gotten a little buff, got rid of his man boobs, and traded in for some new clothes.
This year is undeniably more interesting because of Tiger coming back from his sex scandal. Even if you find him arrogant and lacking morals, it is hard to deny a good story. If he wins, or loses, it will be the story. Billy Payne, chairman of the Augusta National Golf Association, spoke earlier in the week about how upset he was with Tiger's behavior. And how he has disappointed and let down our children and grandchildren who look up to him and think of him as a hero. Is he serious? One, teach your children about real heroes and two, this is coming from the chairman of a racist, sexist, elitist organization. Is he aware of how stupid he sounded?
I'm not going to comment on Tiger's behavior, because I don't care. I like watching him play golf. I don't care that he went to rehab because he is a sex addict. Is that really even an addiction? Or is having sex with a bunch of woman more about availability, power and entitlement. A case could be made for either, but again I don't care. One of the best quotes about Tiger was from his Mom. "No body's perfect except God, but learn from your mistakes. If you don't, you're so damn dumb." Leave the scolding and pompous comments to his Mom. She seems to have it under control.
I have the NY Times, a new magazine, a book and about 6 loads of laundry to do. I'm set for Golf today. Tiger just hit his first shot and he is already off the course. Let's see him golf his way out of that. My perfect afternoon is about to start. Have a good day.
